  • Vintage Framus - Identification, parts and servicing, advices

    Hello everyone,

I just bought a vintage Framus that I found good looking and comfortable to play on.

First I would like to identify it properly. The tag is hard to decipher and missing usual infos about the guitar.

The model seems to be something like 5/?11T but a spot masks the first number. Serial is 12992 if that helps in anyway. No mention of the year of fabrication, just the usual Müller testing.

I have all the parts not depicted above (Pickguard has a crack so I am gluing it, knobs are mismatched but functional) but two parts missing on the tremolo:

I you observe this picture there is the arm obviously but also some sort of rubber buffer between the tremolo and the guitar body. Anyone knows how I could find some replacing parts? If you ever find an offer around I would gladly pay for item and shipping to France. Even replacing the whole tremolo would be a possibility as there is a little spot of verdigris as you can see pictured above. I thought about buying and adapting a Fender arm at first but this may not work and more importantly not solve the missing rubber part.

I have also a question about the little blck wire coming out of the bottom of the guitar on the first picture. It was sticked to the body under the tremolo place. Is there any reason for it? Is it some sort of ground wire that transmits electricity to the tremolo? I may look at electronics at some point...

And last but not least I wanted to find it a flight case. I assume the proportions of the guitars are those of a jaguar. Can anyone confirm? I thought of buying the "SKB 62 Jag/Jazz" to contain it. Maybe someone has another advice here.

Thanks for your time and replies, well appreciated!

      Hi fancywarrior,

Congratulations, this a real beauty This guitar looks like 5/116 New Sound TV-Typ. It was made in the late 60's between 1968 to 1970 for a short amount of time. This model used to have a tremolo but I could not say if your parts 100% original...

Unfortunately I cannot not help for electronics. But you might find some vintage-correct replacement parts on this link:

      I hope this helps,

It may not be very clear but I have all the parts that seem to be missing on the picture but two related to the tailpiece: the vibrato arm and the rubber bit connecting the tailpiece to the body for leverage. The rest is in perfect condition.
Either I manage to get a complete tailpiece in replacement or find the missing two parts to complete mine. It is way overpriced but I am looking for this more or less (The tailpice is not diagonal like mine is). It is not on the Warwick shop, I checked it beforehand

You are the second one to mention a 5/116 TV making the patch incorrect. Interesting...

Thank you for your answer it is well appreciated!

For the record, I tried the SKB case for Jaguar and Jazzmaster and a Framus Television is aparantly larger than these two at the bottom and a larger low horn as well (Pickguard one). I haven't checked the depth because it doesn't fit and I am looking for another.solution. Warwick has plenty of cases but they don't know if one fits. If anyone has the measures or even found a perfect case for their Framus Television, please chime in!

The guitar is now alive and kicking, only one of the knobs is not of original standard but close enough from the outside to be ok. I am super happy at the guitar. I think I put too much oil on the neck and it felt better in contact with the strings when it was dry, I hope times does it job to get that feeling back.

I know this is a response to your post from over a year ago but that is a ground for the tailpiece which the strings touch to eliminate noise hum.

Does any of you by chance have a wiring diagram for switchs and pickups on a 5/116 New Sound TV or Atlantic?
