  • Label inside IMS/JMS says "Foreign Made Instrument"

    Hi there,

I bought this wonderful guitar yesterday and had no idea about its fascinating history: I've now learned that what looks like JMS means IMS and that those guitars were mainly built for PX Stores. This guitar has a sticker from a local music dealer (that no longer exists), so possibly it found its way there as a used instrument already
What I want to know is what it means that it says "FOREIGN MADE INSTRUMENT" on the label. Does that mean West-Germany/Franconia for purposes of customs etc for the American Service Personnel, or is there more behind it?
    Any response is very welcome.

    All the best

    El Ret

    Hi El Ret,
I believe they started out in 1967 or so with "made in Franconian" printed on the label. "75" could hint to a much later date, while they still might have rebranded Framus instruments, but this one could also be Made In Japan.
